Overview of the Department
Building and civil engineering department started operations in September 2019 with
Madam Hellen Ouko as the head of the department, 95 students in total, 21 of them being
female and 74 males.
The department has 7 full time lecturers and 3 part time trainers, who are committed in provision of the skills and knowledge to the students.
The department offers the following courses:
- Diploma in civil engineering
- Diploma in building technology
- Diploma in land survey
- Certificate in building technology
- Certificate in road construction
- Certificate in land survey
- Artisan masonry
- Artisan plumbing
- Artisan carpentry
The above courses allow the students obtain skills that they can use for self employment
and becoming great entrepreneurs. The department has ensured this in collaboration with
AVIC INTERNATIONAL through the MINISTRY OF EDUCATION to introduce new sophisticated
machines for test of materials used in construction industry. The machines are of high
quality and matching the current products in construction thus making learning efficient
and effective. Due to unavailability of these machines locally the department ensures
our students are at par with the new trend in construction technology in the market. Our
machines have made the department more marketable since we can provide quality test to
the local clients undertaking construction.
We can also produce quality products with block making machine like:
• Hollow blocks and
• Normal blocks for construction purposes to the locals.
This has enhanced students’ performance through various vigorous practical sessions within the department. We are therefore looking forward to collaborating with more partners to equip our students on principles of building and construction management for them to provide quality products and services in engineering to the market.
